Udawalawe National Park has a history of conservation and natural heritage making it a very colorful wildlife sanctuary. The park was created in 1972 as a home to the animals that were displaced by the building of the Udawalawe Reservoir and is characterized by a variety of landscapes and a rich variety of wildlife such as expansive grasslands, thorny scrub jungles and the gleaming reservoir.
